Win a prize just by running in your PCCCT top!

For all PCCCT members, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming season. In the lead up to this season we are encouraging all members to get out there in your club shirts and singlets at your local events. We are aiming to make the club’s presence known in the local community and hopefully attract a few new runners to our club.

As an added incentive we will be running a random prize draw each Monday between now and the start of the season for members. Get out there, run an event in your club gear and post it to Facebook. All members whose photos are posted each week will go into the draw for a pair of running socks available from Bitumen 2 Bush.

Bitumen 2 Bush are our sponsors for these prizes and are a wonderful source for all your running needs, both on and off road.

Terms and conditions of the prize draw:

  • To be eligible entrants must be a current (2022 and/or 2023) member of the PCCCT
  • To enter:
    • Partake in a running event in your PCCCT running gear (shirt/singlet/warm-up top) and have your photo taken
    • Post the photo on Facebook with the runner(s) name(s) and event name included, and tag The PCCCT – Running Club and Bitumen 2 Bush. Facebook posts must be set to “public”
    • All posts must be made to Facebook by 12 noon of the Monday each week
  • One random entrant will selected each Monday afternoon and receive one pair of running socks available from Bitumen 2 Bush
  • Eligible events include:
    • All Tasmanian parkruns
    • Tasmanian running events
  • Entries go to the runner(s) in the photo, not the photo poster; each eligible runner in a photo will be entered in the draw
  • Eligible runners will receive one entry per event; multiple events per week allowed

Calcutta Rules

The PCCCT Inc. conducts a Calcutta on the Wynyard-Burnie Feature Race to be run on Sunday 11 September 2022.
How does it work?
The Calcutta is divided into two stages:

1.The Ticket Draw
Tickets are sold for $2.00 in the weeks leading up to the race. On Tuesday 7 September. The Calcutta commences with one ticket being drawn for each runner in the Feature Race. If your ticket is drawn you are then the “drawer” of that particular runner. The result of the draw will be published on the website All proceeds of the ticket draw go into the prize pool.

2.The Auction
Following the ticket draw we get down to the business of the auction. This will take place at the The Point, West Park commencing at 7.30 pm on Friday 9 September
Each runner will be auctioned to the attendees at the Calcutta, who have the opportunity to bid for that runner.

After the hammer fall on each runner:

  • the person with the highest bid becomes the owner of that runner
  • 50% of the sale price goes to the person who drew that runner in the ticket draw
  • the remaining 50% goes into the ever growing prize pool
After the race on Sunday 11 September, the prize pool is divided as follows:
  • 65% to the owner of the winning runner
  • 15% to the owner of the second placegetter
  • 10% to the owner of the third placegetter
  • 10% to the PCCCT to cover printing costs of tickets
    and the Calcutta permit fee.

A message from your Handicappers…

Handicapping runners is a daunting task, endeavouring to be fair and just to all competitors.

A Handicapper is appointed at our Annual General Meeting. It is a voluntary position and it requires a considerable amount of time dedicated to the task each and every week.

It should be noted that there are notes on the PCCCT Website (found here) in reference to Handicapping. That article stipulates that each and every handicap is at the Handicapper’s discretion which means no other person will have a say in handicaps.

A Base Handicap is allotted to each runner over a 5 km distance. That handicap is just a guide to set handicaps for a particular race which enables adjustments to be made taking in all scenarios as outlined on the Website. In essence your handicap may vary from week to week .

If a runner is competing at his/her best and doesn’t take the opportunity of winning when it arises you may miss out in obtaining that accolade as other competitors may have a better opportunity going forward . (No holding back or you might miss the boat)

A note of interest. We endeavour to get 30 runners within 3 minutes of the finish time each week.

Your Handicappers,

Pat McMahon

Greg Smith
