Win a prize just by running in your PCCCT top!

For all PCCCT members, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming season. In the lead up to this season we are encouraging all members to get out there in your club shirts and singlets at your local events. We are aiming to make the club’s presence known in the local community and hopefully attract a few new runners to our club.

As an added incentive we will be running a random prize draw each Monday between now and the start of the season for members. Get out there, run an event in your club gear and post it to Facebook. All members whose photos are posted each week will go into the draw for a pair of running socks available from Bitumen 2 Bush.

Bitumen 2 Bush are our sponsors for these prizes and are a wonderful source for all your running needs, both on and off road.

Terms and conditions of the prize draw:

  • To be eligible entrants must be a current (2022 and/or 2023) member of the PCCCT
  • To enter:
    • Partake in a running event in your PCCCT running gear (shirt/singlet/warm-up top) and have your photo taken
    • Post the photo on Facebook with the runner(s) name(s) and event name included, and tag The PCCCT – Running Club and Bitumen 2 Bush. Facebook posts must be set to “public”
    • All posts must be made to Facebook by 12 noon of the Monday each week
  • One random entrant will selected each Monday afternoon and receive one pair of running socks available from Bitumen 2 Bush
  • Eligible events include:
    • All Tasmanian parkruns
    • Tasmanian running events
  • Entries go to the runner(s) in the photo, not the photo poster; each eligible runner in a photo will be entered in the draw
  • Eligible runners will receive one entry per event; multiple events per week allowed

Race 26 Simons Carpets Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race 17.6km Handicap Report

The PCCCT-Running Club’s premier event of the season – the Simons Carpets 17.6-kilometre Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race was run on Sunday and attracted a field of excellent quality.

The prestigious and much sought-after race looked very open on paper with many chances and this was how it turned out with less than three minutes separating the top ten finishers.

Forthside runner, Andrew Winkel starting from the third back mark, charged through the field to record a hard-fought victory.

Winkel took the lead from frontmarker, Chris Talbot with just over a kilometre to run to record his second victory for the year, with the first being the 6-kilometre event at Fernglade in April. He has also had two other victories in his ten years with the Club.

He gave himself a good chance in the race as last weekend he had run a personal best for 10-kilometres in a funrun in Melbourne so knew he was in great form.

Talbot hung on for fourth behind Josh Febey and Liam Williams, while Bryan Tuit ran a great fifth.

Thomas Murton recorded the fastest time (58:24) while fastest female was Rhian Miles (73:00).

Other awards were: first female Ellen Burgess, first novice Liam Williams, first over 50 Chris Talbot and youngest finisher Dominic Troughton.

At the post-race luncheon Club stalwarts, Greg Smith and Rick Ferguson, were presented with Life Memberships, while Brian Paine and Emma Turner received Ron Chequer Memorial Awards for volunteering.

Feature Race 2022 – Details and Race Brief

The event starts outside the Wynyard Post Office. Please run on the left hand side of the road except for where there are bike lanes and footpaths. Where these exist, please use them There is little verge on the section of the Old Bass Highway from the Mt Hicks roundabout and Doctors Rocks junction. Please stay on the extreme left of the road there and take great care.

Care is also needed where the roadworks are being undertaken at Doctors Rocks.

The work being done on the Cam River Bridge means there is little running room on the left hand side of the road. We are asking that no-one overtakes another runner while crossing the bridge. Please stay in single-file until you are off the bridge.

Care is needed entering West Park as cars may be entering or crossing toward the bike park at the same time.

Please obey any directions of Club officials and/or police officers.

Race 26 Simons Carpets Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race 17.6km Handicap Calcutta Draw and Preview

This Sunday sees the running of the Simons Carpets Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature race.

This event, which is the most prestigious of the season, is run over 17.6 kilometres, starting outside the Wynyard post office and ends with a lap of West Park oval giving spectators a good view of the finish. The first runner away, Bonnie Bonneville, will commence her journey at 9:30 with the winner expected to finish at around 11:30.

All members would like to add their name to the honour board listing previous winners, but only one will have that privilege. To win, a number of factors have to come together, but principal is a quality, injury-free preparation to enable a competitor to utilise the handicap provided.

The best of the frontmarkers looks to be Darlene Jacques but the distance will suit Chris Talbot while David Murton will also make a strong claim.

Best of the middlemarkers look to be Steve Tammens, Jason Scott, Aaron Robertson and Jordan Matthews. With great runs on the day, Gerard Lowry and Greg Smith can also put themselves in the picture.

Any of several backmarkers would not surprise and be deserving winners. Ben Young, Ben Brockman, Josh Febey and Andrew Winkel are all top chances while any of the three competitors who will be the latest to start, Hayden Bishop and Brian Lyons off 59:00 and Thomas Murton off 1:02:30 could charge through the field and break the tape.

Following the race there will be a luncheon at The Point for members and their families.

There will be no nominated time event this week.

Race 25 Railton, Anvers Chocolate 10km Handicap Report

Sunday’s PCCCT – Running Club race at Railton – the Anvers Chocolate ten-kilometre handicap was run in great weather conditions.

The course takes runners on back streets and through a bush track before heading up the tough 1.5-kilometre long Newbed Road hill and continuing to complete a circuit.

This was the final race before the season finale next week – the Wynyard to Burnie Feature race – and was penalty free until after that event. Consequently, it was expected to be a very close contest and it was outside the winner.

One of the frontmarkers, Sulphur Creek runner, JoHanna Robertson, a winner earlier in the season, showed how much she has continued to improve to record a comfortable victory.

Robertson has upped her training in recent weeks, increasing her distances as well as doing interval work, to enable her to comfortably complete the Club’s 17.6 Feature Race. She has even surprised herself with her improvement and on today’s effort, she should have no problem.

The consistent Josh Febey ran into second place recording fastest time (37:29) although he did not have much to spare over the next runners to finish, Steven Tammens, Alison Ridderhof (who was fastest female in 48:58) and Melinda Bramich.

Others to turn in good performances included Gerard Lowry, Troy Reader and David Murton. All of these runners will go into the big one next week with a degree of confidence.

The nominated time winners were Ruby Tate, Malcolm Nutting, Sienna Bramich and Hannah Ridderhof.
