This course consists of a mix of road and off road track starting at the end of Port St, Port Sorell. The starting location has changed in 2023, with runners starting and finishing at the end of Port Street on the road near the boat ramp. Runners will head west along the esplanade before crossing the Panatana Rivulet via the footbridge. After crossing the rivulet, the course takes an anticlockwise loop following the trails, crossing Panatana Dr and continuing until the trail meets Milldan Rd. Here runners will head north along Milldan Rd briefly before turning right into Jefkins Dr, following this road for approx. 800 m before a turnaround and returning to Milldan Rd. The course then follows Milldan Rd north until the end of this road which leads directly onto trail. Runners will follow this trail until the footbridge to complete the loop before re-crossing the bridge and returning the start area to the finish chute.
Please do not park along the esplanade or near the start/finish chute. The car park at the reserve is under construction and is not accessible, can you please make sure that you keep residents’ driveways clear.
There are two road crossings at Panatana Dr and Milldan Rd. Runners are strongly reminded that they do not have right of way and that they are expected to take due care at all crossings.
The off-road sections of the race are relatively easy, but there are sections of exposed tree roots and variable lighting. It is suggested that runners avoid using sunglasses out on course.
When warming up and moving towards the start area, people are reminded that runners may be starting their race. Please take care to avoid interfering with runners already on course.
Well done to all teams/runners in today’s MJ & LJ Bates Plumbing 4x5km Relay Handicap at Preservation Bay.
Congratulations to Everyday Lions 4 (Roselyn Hendriks, Dennis Hendriks, Tye Binns, and Jo Riddoch) who won from Coffee Chasers, Rare Spares, View Running, and Just 4 Fun.
Nominated Time Winners were Hannah Ridderhof, Rory Hancock, Mitch Tate and Tom Ridderhof.
This race is a relay where each team member covers the same 5 km course. The race chute will serve as the start and finish (transition for runners 1, 2 and 3) for all team members.
The race starts on the grass west of the Penguin Surf Club. Runners head east along the new coastal path towards Penguin, over the hill until the first turn opposite Johnson’s Beach, then return along the same route to the surf club. From there, runners avoid going through the race chute, instead continuing west along the new path for another 1 km. The second turn is immediately before Midway Point at Sulphur Creek. From there, runners return along the path back the surf club and the transition to the next runner.
The coastal path is 3.5m wide. However, as runners will be travelling along the path in both directions throughout the race, competitors are reminded that they must keep to the left-hand side of the path at all times. Please overtake slower runners only when safe to do so.
Each team will be provided with two race bibs only. The first bib is to be worn by runner number 1 and then given to runner 3 prior to the start of their leg. Similarly, the second bib is to be worn by runner 2 and then given to runner 4.
All warmups should be completed on the pathway to avoid crossing the roads, please be mindful of those that are racing.
There is limited parking at the Penguin Surf Club and we have a large number of entrants. Alternate parking is available at Johnson’s Beach, parking at this location offers a 1.5km warm up.
The Club and Sponsor will provide a BBQ after the event.
For all PCCCT members, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming season. In the lead up to this season we are encouraging all members to get out there in your club shirts and singlets at your local events. We are aiming to make the club’s presence known in the local community and hopefully attract a few new runners to our club.
As an added incentive we will be running a random prize draw each Monday between now and the start of the season for members. Get out there, run an event in your club gear and post it to Facebook. All members whose photos are posted each week will go into the draw for a pair of running socks available from Bitumen 2 Bush.
Bitumen 2 Bush are our sponsors for these prizes and are a wonderful source for all your running needs, both on and off road.
Terms and conditions of the prize draw:
To be eligible entrants must be a current (2022 and/or 2023) member of the PCCCT
To enter:

The PCCCT-Running Club’s premier event of the season – the Simons Carpets 17.6-kilometre Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race was run on Sunday and attracted a field of excellent quality.
The prestigious and much sought-after race looked very open on paper with many chances and this was how it turned out with less than three minutes separating the top ten finishers.
Forthside runner, Andrew Winkel starting from the third back mark, charged through the field to record a hard-fought victory.
Winkel took the lead from frontmarker, Chris Talbot with just over a kilometre to run to record his second victory for the year, with the first being the 6-kilometre event at Fernglade in April. He has also had two other victories in his ten years with the Club.
He gave himself a good chance in the race as last weekend he had run a personal best for 10-kilometres in a funrun in Melbourne so knew he was in great form.
Talbot hung on for fourth behind Josh Febey and Liam Williams, while Bryan Tuit ran a great fifth.
Thomas Murton recorded the fastest time (58:24) while fastest female was Rhian Miles (73:00).
Other awards were: first female Ellen Burgess, first novice Liam Williams, first over 50 Chris Talbot and youngest finisher Dominic Troughton.
At the post-race luncheon Club stalwarts, Greg Smith and Rick Ferguson, were presented with Life Memberships, while Brian Paine and Emma Turner received Ron Chequer Memorial Awards for volunteering.
Well done to all runners who competed in the Race 26 Simons Carpets Wynyard-to-Burnie Feature Race 17.6km Handicap.
Congratulations to Andrew Winkel, who won from Joshua Febey, Liam Williams, Christopher Talbot, Bryan Tuit, Ben Brockman, David Murton, Ellen Burgess, Jordan Matthews, and Matthew Lardner.
Fastest Male was Thomas Murton (58:24) and Fastest Female was Rhian Miles (1:13:00).
First 50 years and over (other than the winner): Christopher Talbot
