A sunny autumn morning greeted 58 runners to Stanley for the running of the Dowling McCarthy Tyres/Hanson Family ‘Steve Hanson Memorial’ Ace of the Green Hills 8km handicap.

A prestigious event on the PCCCT calendar, the Stanley run is a favourite amongst members, known for its stunning views and tough but fast course.

Young charger Dominic Troughton broke through for his first win in a handicap race, coming home over a minute in front of Ken Williams and Shaun Batten.

Dominic regularly runs with the Burnie Solemates group, which includes many members of the PCCCT, including his mother and father; Mary-Lou and Ken. He has also been running with the club for a few years, competing in the nominated time events each week. Now old enough to run in the handicap races at fifteen-years-old, he has stepped up this year and really impressed with his weekly improvement, especially over the longer distances.

One of the front-markers, Ken Williams has impressed in recent weeks, finishing in second place. The fast finishing Shaun Batten came home third, with a win surely in his sights.

Fastest Male was Thomas Murton, finishing fourth in a time of 25:17. Sam Lovatt rounded out the top five.

Pre-race favourite Gerard Lowry finished ninth, with Anne Thomas the first female home in seventh.

Fastest Female was Rachel Young in a time of 36:44.

The earlier nominated time event winners were Pamela Robertson and Kobie Reid.

Sunday saw the inaugural running of the Everyday Lions Female 5km Handicap, and the Simons Design Centre Male 5km Handicap in Devonport. Cool, blustery conditions greeted runners for the flat four lap circuit around Meercroft Park.

The men’s race was conducted first, with Raymond Spinks leading the field out closely followed by Ken Williams. It took until the final straight for Brendan Burr to take the lead off Ken, holding on to victory from a fast charging Shaun Batten and Will van Rooyen.

Brendan joined the club in 2002 at sixteen years old and returned to the club in 2019 after a fifteen-year hiatus. Brendan is coached by Brian Lyons at Everyday Lions, and is earning reward for his effort, breaking the twenty-minute barrier in the race.

Young charger Thomas Winkel took out the fastest time, with a blistering time of 15:59.

The women’s race followed the men’s, with Selina Crispin breaking through for her first win with the club. She was closely followed by Emily Aichberger and Anne Thomas.

Selina joined the club last year and has raced almost every race since joining. She had previously finished no higher than eighth position, pulling out a great performance to take the victory. She cements herself in the record books as the first winner of a female only race with the PCCCT. She was presented her trophy by the club’s first female member, Ann Ketelaar, to honour the occasion.

Fastest time was taken out by Lyn Saint-John, in a time of 20:11.

In the earlier nominated time event, the winners were Matthew Robertson, Sarah Lakeland, Heath Bramich, and Brian Paine.

Well done to the 39 finishers in the Simons Design Centre Male 5km Handicap, and the 17 finishers in the Everyday Lions Female 5km Handicap!

In the Male race, Brendon Burr won from Shaun Batten and Will van Rooyen. Fastest time was Tom Winkel in 15:59.

In the Female race, Selina Crispin won from Emily Aichberger and Anne Thomas. Fastest time was Lyn Saint-John in 20:11.

The nominated time winners were Matthew Roberston, Sarah Lakeland, Heath Bramich, and Brian Paine.

Cool and overcast conditions greeted 55 runners on Sunday for Race 8 of the PCCCT Season.

The Physiotas City of Devonport 10km Handicap was run in conjunction with the Molly Malones 10km Championships, as a sealed handicap mass start event. This created much excitement and anticipation, with the handicap winner not known until presentations.

As the event was the club championships, the first runners across the line took out the placings. Thomas Murton broke the tape first for the males, with a blistering time of 32:18. Over three minutes behind in second was Hayden Bishop, followed by Ben Brockman for third.

The female championships were taken out by Lyn Saint-John, in a time of 41:22. She broke the tape four minutes ahead of Ellen Burgess in second, with Anna Murton rounding out the top three.

The handicap race was taken out by pre-race favourite, David Wright. Having won two races previously, David is a fixture of the club having run 230 races to date. His last win was in 2013 and has since battled injuries over several years. Since retiring, David has managed to work through his injuries and start returning to some top form.

Tony Abel ran a strong race, placing in second. Nigel Baptist finished third, with a win surely soon in his sights. Ellen Burgess and Thomas Murton rounded out the top five.

Hannah Elphinstone took out the earlier nominated time event.

Congratulations to David Wright, who took out the Physiotas City of Devonport 10km Handicap, from Tony Abel, Nigel Baptist, Ellen Burgess, and Thomas Murton.

Lyn Saint-John (41:22) took out the female Molly Malones 10km Championship, from Ellen Burgess (45:17) and Anna Murton (47:30).

Thomas Murton (32:18) won the male Molly Malones 10km Championship, from Hayden Bishop (35:37) and Ben Brockman (39:13).

The Nominated Time winner was Hannah Elphinstone, 6 seconds off her time.
