President’s introduction to 2021 season

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to welcome old and new members and their families to the 2021 season.

Last year we were only able to hold nine races, commencing in July, due of course to COVID-19. Hopefully this year we will be able to see a full season of 26 events.

Many of last year’s innovations which were never realised, have been retained. These include a teams’ race within the marathon, having the Feature Race as the last of the season, having both the 5km and 10 km championships as mass starts (with sealed handicaps) and running the two division 5km races at the Bluff as male and female events.

In addition, we will keep some of the new things we introduced last year: on-line membership and entries, being able to pay one amount to enter bulk races and 9:30 starts for most events.

There are some new courses for you to enjoy too – at the Arboretum, Romaine Park, and on the Dial Range.

The Club gratefully acknowledges our wonderful sponsors. Please support them in return.

Our Club runs on the efforts of volunteers. If you are able, please assist the Club, especially with the conduct of events.

As we often use public roads, paths and spaces, please respect other users and be sure to keep yourself and them safe.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the magnificent record of Barry Ling who was on the PCCCT committee for 38 years with 34 of those as President. He has finally decided to step down from the Committee but will continue to be very involved with the Club. We will pay tribute to Barry in due course during the season.

In closing I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable season.

Rod Viney
