Welcome everybody to the Professional Cross Country Club of Tasmania for the start of our 50th season, with the club having formed in 1968
The first race that year was a 3 mile event over a circuit course, starting at Burnie Park, running up Brickport Road and back to the Park, on April 21. Twenty-eight sompetitors took part in that history making event.
Since that time the Club has been well supported by many business houses, firms and individuals. We greatly appreciate their generosity to allow the Club to organise races for the many hundreds of athletes who have been part of the Club since 1968.
This season will again have 27 races with several changes from last year, most notably the marathon is now race 8 on the programme. There will also be no Club race on June 18 to allow members to compete in the Launceston Ten.
The popular trail courses at Hellyer College, Spreyton, Penguin and Fern Glade will again be a part of our season.
During the year, the Club will celebrate its wonderful history with a special event to bring together many past members to relive their memories of the Club.
With the assistance of two grants, the Club will be able to replace the old van with a better one and also we have purchased a new electronic timing scheme to greatly improve the running of each event.
Each week, the Club needs assistance on race day, so if you are not competing, and can help us, please contact one of the committee.
Again, as most of the races are on public roads and footpaths, I urge all members to use extreme care, obey all road rules and respect other users.
Welcome again to all members to our 50th season and I wish you all the best and happy running in 2017.
Barry Ling O.A.M.
