The shortened 2020 season comes to a close this Sunday when members have the chance to run on a new scenic course at Wynyard.

The nine-kilometre out-and-back route starts at Gutteridge Gardens and will use tracks on both sides of the Inglis River, so no road running will be needed.

The race will be two kilometres longer than the last few runs and this will suit some runners who will prefer the extra distance.

One runner who has been slowly improving and fits the bill is Devonport runner Paul Birch.

A Club veteran, having had more than six hundred starts, Birch ran his best race for the season last week, with a strong run into fourth. Everything points to him having a second-to-none chance of taking out a well-deserved victory on Sunday.

Ellen Burgess also had her best result of the season last week with an excellent second. She is another who is happier, the longer the race and could easily break the tape.

Josh Febey was close to a win for most of last year and has shown up recently as well, so is another strong chance

Others to watch include Adrian Mann, Sven Mason and Mollie Powell.

This race will be run to honour the memory of Club stalwart Ron Chequer, who died suddenly earlier this year. Members are asked to stay after the race to enjoy a Club supplied barbecue and remember Ron.

New runners are welcome and must register for membership and enter by 9pm Friday.

The race will start at 9:30am while nominated time events will be held at 9:00.
