Race 3 of the 2020 PCCCT season was run in perfect conditions on Sunday. Starting at the pony club at Fern Glade, Burnie, the 6km course, while short in distance, provided plenty of hills for members to enjoy.

After two perfectly flat races on mostly sealed surfaces, this course also provided some muddy trails and many runners who prefer such conditions turned in good performances.

The race was a triumph for first year runner, Ulverstone teenager, Will van Rooyen. In his first season with the senior club after half a dozen years running in the nominated time events, Van Rooyen has been in great form finishing in the placings in the first two races, including a very close second last week.

There were no worries this time as van Rooyen had a comfortable 32 second break over second placegetter Darlene Jacques, with backmarker Shaun Batten a very promising third.

Van Rooyen, a grade 10 student, who would like to join the police force when he finishes school, also enjoys mountain bike trail riding and that, along with his running, keep him very fit.

Great runs were recorded by backmarkers Jono Price and Aaron Robertson who finished just behind the placegetters, while first season runners Paul Pilkington and Adrian Mann did well to run into “the ten”.

Fastest male and female were Jono Price and Amie Bramich respectively.

Earlier, nominated time winners were Libby Crispin, Mitchell Elphinstone and Milla Price.
